Denise Fiedler started making collages in 2009 after working with textiles for many, many years. Her cut and sew became cut and paste. Cutting paper into forms is a natural extension of drawing, a continuing practice from childhood. The fascination with texture continued in the form of printed pages from vintage and discarded books and newspapers. Her representational subject matter is varied, but at The Workshop Residence the focus is a favorite; dogs and cats. In these portraits, the spirit of the pet is considered just as much as the physical resemblance.
