Max Lamb: Limited Edition White Porcelain "Big Vase I" & "Big Vase II"
Designer Max Lamb hand carved the original forms for these vases in plaster by hammer and chisel. Three-part hollow molds were then produced from the carved forms which were used to slip-cast in fine bone china. With all stages being done by hand, the kiln size and stress the fine bone china undergoes during firing plays a critical factor. These pieces challenge the potters strength, the physical properties of the clay, as well as the technical capabilities of the pottery.
Big Vase I and Big Vase II were produced by 1882 Ltd., an industrial manufacturer of ceramics based in Stoke on Trent, England.
