For her 2014 thesis project as a BFA student in the Furniture Design program at California College of the Arts, designer Hannah Quinn created a series of ordinary household tools, including brooms, dustpans, and ironing boards. Since graduating, Hannah continues to refine her broom designs, beveling each of the walnut, bleached ash, and cherrywood handles herself, and working with a third generation broom-maker (from whom she sources straw) to elevate the design of an otherwise common tool used for cleaning. Hannah was a 2013 Student Resident Artist at Recology and her work has been featured in exhibitions at the Museum of Craft and Design and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (San Francisco), Dwell On Design (Los Angeles), and the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (New York).
For Workshop Residence, Hannah continues to create new exclusive brooms and dustpans. She has also expanded her repertoire of home goods to include a colorfully powder-coated line of steel bookends.
