Gemma Holt received her MA in Design Products at the Royal College of Art. Before this, she trained as an artist, earning her BA in Interactive Arts at Manchester Metropolitan University, an experimental multi-disciplinary program based on the principles of the free school. Her work has been exhibited in the UK and internationally, and she has participated in several residencies, including the J.B. Blunk Residency in Northern California and a Visual Arts Creative Development residency at Cove Park, Scotland. Gemma works in a variety of materials, from paper to gold, creating objects that defy categorization. Each piece is conceived as both a work of art and of design, driven neither solely by function nor aesthetics. Her methods combine craftsmanship with conceptual rigor, eliminating superfluous decoration and meaning—an idea, distilled into its simplest form.
Gemma Holt joins Workshop Residence in Fall 2017.
